Knowing Jesus Christ as Your Savior

Once upon a time.. at the beginning of time, God created the world and everything in it. He created it from nothing! And then God created the man and the woman in his image. He created us to be like him. And he walked among us in the garden. There was no war, no violence, no television, just all the good things that God had created.God gave the man and the woman only one rule to follow, that they must not eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But they were deceived. The man and the woman disobeyed God, and so their descendants have also disobeyed God. That is called sin and it separates us from God forever. Sin came into the world through Adam and Eve and no matter how good we think we are, or we try to be, we can never be without sin. It overcomes us all.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23

There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.
Ecclesiastes 7:20

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

Even though we have sinned and deserve death, which is eternal separation from our creator, God loves us still. And so he provides a way, only one way, for us to be reunited with him in paradise. By Jesus’ sacrifice. Jesus Christ is God, born in a lowly stable, but born 100% God and 100% man, impossible as it may seem. He lived a perfect life, glorifying God in all he did. He healed the sick, and raised Lazarus from the dead, he taught the teachers of God’s law, and he loved the unlovable, as only God can. When he was only 33 years old, he made the ultimate sacrifice and died on a cross, a shameful death, to pay the price for our sins. But he was fully God, and he didn’t stay dead. On the third day he rose from the dead and after appearing to his disciples and others he ascended into heaven.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

This is God’s gift, that if we believe in him, if we believe in Jesus as our Lord and savior, we will be saved, we will be reunited with God. The Bible tells us how to accept this wonderful free gift.
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Romans 10:9-10

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9

For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him will have eternal life.
John 3:16

If you have just accepted God’s gift, we rejoice with you. One way to help your faith grow is by sharing it with others. Please don’t hesitate to email any staff member of Camp Pattersonville to share your good news with us, or if you have any questions at all about what God’s gift is.

If you are ready to accept God’s gift feel free to pray on your own, or use the simple prayer provided here. You need to recognize your need for Jesus and his sacrifice. Go to him, knowing that you are a sinner and not capable of doing good on your own. Realize that Jesus has done it all for you, so you don’t have to. And commit your life to him. Remember that faith is belief and action. Ask God to help your faith to grow daily.

We suggest praying the prayer below to accept Christ as your Savior: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
